UNIT 1: Telling Your Travel Story

▶ Vocabulary: Travel-related words, itineraries, and transportation.

▶ Grammar Focus: Reflexive verbs in the Past Tense (Pretérito Indefinido).

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Narrate your past travel experiences in detail, describing

your routines and specific actions during a trip.

UNIT 2: A Mexican Love Legend (Mastering Narration)

▶ Vocabulary: Love-related vocabulary, drama, and iconic Mexican legends.

▶ Grammar Focus: Preterite Tense for main actions. Verbs of intention: proponer,

pedir, protestar, despedirse. Narrative connectors: entonces, de repente, en aquel

momento, al final.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Narrate a legend or story fluently and summarize characters’

intentions without using complex structures.

UNIT 3: The “Chisme” Unit

▶ Vocabulary: Dramatic vocabulary (el estreno, el elenco). Mexican slang for dramatic

reactions: ¡No manches!, ¡A poco!, ¡Qué gacho!

▶ Grammar Focus: Basic Indirect Speech (Me dijo que..., me preguntó si...). Verbs of

change: Ponerse, volverse, quedarse.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Share the “gossip” about a series or movie, reporting

exactly what the characters said and how they reacted to the drama.

UNIT 4: Traditions & Festivities

▶ Vocabulary: Independence Day vocabulary and phrases to describe large-scale

celebrations.

▶ Grammar Focus: Combining Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns (Se lo, te la). The “Se”

Impersonal to describe general customs.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Describe complex traditions and explain social interactions

(who gives what to whom) during major festivities.

UNIT 5: The “Sobremesa” & Social Etiquette

▶ Vocabulary: Unwritten rules of the Sobremesa, how to ask for the bill, “inviting” vs.

“splitting the check,” and being a great guest.

▶ Grammar Focus: Temporal markers: Desde / Desde hace / Desde que. Superlatives

(-ísimo) and exclamations (¡Qué rico!). Continuity periphrasis: Seguir/Llevar + gerundio.

Habitual “Se” with the verb Soler.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Navigate the most important social ritual in Mexico (the

sobremesa) and describe cultural habits naturally.

UNIT 6: My Childhood (The Most Used Past Tense)

▶ Vocabulary: Childhood activities, toys, and memories.

▶ Grammar Focus: The Imperfect Tense for habits. Contrast markers: Ya no / Todavía.

Periphrasis of change: Dejar de / Volver a + infinitive.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Compare your current life with your childhood using struc-

tures of change, continuity, and nostalgic description.

UNIT 7: 5 de Mayo (History vs. Myths)

▶ Vocabulary: History-related words and battle/celebration phrases.

▶ Grammar Focus: Mastering the contrast between Preterite and Imperfect. Connection

words: Mientras tanto, de pronto, entonces.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Narrate historical events or personal stories by perfectly

balancing background descriptions (Imperfect) with specific actions (Preterite).

UNIT 8: Shops & Directions (Mastering Commands)

▶ Vocabulary: Local Mexican shops, market terms, and asking/giving directions.

▶ Grammar Focus: Affirmative and Negative Imperative (Tú/Usted). Placing pronouns

with commands (Dímelo). Use of algún, alguna, algunos, algunas.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Navigate Mexican streets and shops with confidence by

giving and following precise instructions.

UNIT 9: Relationships & Coexistence (Expressing Feelings)

▶ Vocabulary: Social bonds (Caerle bien/mal a alguien), neighborly relations, and ma-

king/canceling plans.

▶ Grammar Focus: Introduction to Present Subjunctive for wishes (Ojalá, espero que)

and requests (Quiero que vengas). Expressing emotions (Me alegra/molesta que).

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Express your feelings and set boundaries politely. Navigate

Mexican “emotional etiquette” (how to say “no” without being rude).

UNIT 10: Future Life in Mexico

▶ Vocabulary: Gentrification, cost of living, quality of life and moving.

▶ Grammar Focus: Future Simple for predictions and probability. Real “If” clauses

(Si + Present + Future). Past Perfect (Había + participio) for prior experiences.

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Speak confidently about your career goals and participate

in current conversations about how Mexico is changing.

UNIT 11: Survival 2.0

▶ Vocabulary: Home repairs (la fuga, el plomero, el corto circuito) and dealing with

Mexican bureaucracy.

▶ Grammar Focus: Mastering the real use of “Ahorita”. Subjunctive for necessity and

urgency (Necesito que...).

▶ What you’ll be able to do: Handle domestic emergencies and make effective service

claims in Mexico without losing your cool.

UNIT 12: Learn to Debate

▶ Vocabulary: Debate phrases (a favor, en contra, por lo tanto) and technology terminology.
